Its thrust is to provide immediate lifesaving care and urgent medical intervention. It is staffed by a competent team of emergency medicine physicians, resident doctors, nurses, and other allied health professionals, committed to providing immediate assessment, stabilization, and treatment of patients with urgent and life-threatening conditions.

Core Services: 

  • 24/7 Emergency Medical Care: The primary function, ensuring immediate medical attention at any time of day or night. 
  • Acute Illness Management: Diagnosis and treatment of sudden and severe medical conditions (e.g., severe infections, asthma attacks, allergic reactions, high fevers, sudden onset of pain). 
  • Trauma Care: Initial assessment, stabilization, and management of injuries resulting from accidents, falls, assaults, or other traumatic events (e.g., fractures, lacerations, head injuries, burns). This would include minor to severe trauma. 
  • Cardiac Emergencies: Initial management of heart-related issues such as chest pain, suspected heart attacks (myocardial infarction), arrhythmias, and heart failure exacerbations. 
  • Neurological Emergencies: Assessment and initial treatment for conditions like strokes, seizures, severe headaches, and altered mental status. 
  • Respiratory Emergencies: Management of severe breathing difficulties, including acute exacerbations of COPD, pneumonia, and severe asthma. 
  • Gastrointestinal Emergencies: Care for conditions like severe abdominal pain, appendicitis, gallstones, gastrointestinal bleeding, and severe vomiting/diarrhea.
  • Pediatric Emergencies: Dedicated care for infants, children, and adolescents experiencing various urgent medical conditions or injuries. 
  • Surgical Emergencies: Initial stabilization and preparation for emergency surgical procedures, working closely with the hospital’s surgery department. 
  • Diagnostics: Immediate access to essential diagnostic services such as: 
    • Laboratory Tests: Blood work (CBC, blood chemistry, cardiac enzymes, etc.), urinalysis. 
    • Imaging: X-rays, CT scans (for head injuries, abdominal pain, etc.), and potentially ultrasound. 
    • ECG (Electrocardiogram): For heart rhythm and function assessment. 
  • Resuscitation: Life-saving interventions for critical conditions such as cardiac arrest, respiratory failure, and severe shock.
  • Wound Care and Laceration Repair: Cleaning, dressing, and suturing of cuts and wounds. 
  • Pain Management: Immediate relief for acute pain. 
  • Stabilization and Transfer: Preparing patients for admission to an inpatient ward, ICU, or for transfer to another specialized facility if necessary.
